Get to Know Us

We can't wait to meet you

The Dog (as it is known by the locals) is the only Pub on East Mersea - with a long history on the island - it used to be known as the Grey Goose - a 1769 document in Essex Record Office refers to it by that name, however, by 1855 it was known as the Dog and Pheasant and the name stuck.

In 1928 the building was much extended on the west side, and since then, the old part has been used as the pub restaurant, a holiday home, and now a private residence.

Our dog friendly room for your four legged friends is in the small bar so do make sure to tell us you are bringing your dog if you are booking to eat in. There is also ample space in the large garden to relax and enjoy the sunshine and a large car park to boot.

Children are of course most welcome with well behaved parents.  Please note that children under 12 are not permitted in the bar area after 9pm.

So next time you are on Mersea Island, head due East and join us and our friendly locals for great drinks, great food and great company.

As we say... 'Our Welcome makes you Feel Local'
